The definition of Mycorrhizal Fungi is:
"Mycorrhizae (it means fungus root) are a group of about 400 fungi that form symbiotic relationships with plants. They live in or on the roots, extend their hyphae into the soil and make phosphate, nitrogen other nutrients ansdgrow faster, larger and stronger with less fertiliser and water"

SO WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
Mycorrhizal fungi are one of natures best kept secrets. These tiny fungi exist naturally in undisturbed soils such as forest, woodlands and natural grass land.
The Mycorrhizal fungi work with the plant, tree, vegetable or shrub in a mutual relationship. The mycorrhizae helps the plant to absorb nutrients and water more readily from the soil by effectively increase the roots natural surface area (they can increase the size well up 50%). They are especially good at seeking out and 'finite' (rare) minerals such as Phosphorus.
In return the plant helps the mycorrhizae spores to survive by feeding them bi products from Photosynthesis (such as sugars). Making a perfect relationship.
Is mycorrhizal fungi not already in your garden?
Mycorrhizal fungi are very fragile. In a forest were disturbance of the soils is very minimal they thrive as they are not disturbed. Unfortunately our gardens do not offer the same haven as the wild.
If you left your garden alone for years, mycorrhizae would naturally migrate from other soils and attach to your plant roots (at the same time you would have a overgrown forest in your garden)
When a plant is also plucked from its soils and taken to be sold at a garden centre, any mycorrhizal fungi that lived on the roots has a large possibility of being damaged and perishing.
How can you get the mycorrhizae advantage?
From research and development , it is now possible to harvest mycorrhizal fungi and offer them to you, in a pack that you can apply before planting to get the mycorrhizal edge straight away!

We offer Symbio Mycorrhizal Transplanter. This contains both types of Endo and Ecto Mycorrhizal Fungi (Different types relate to different plants, this will be in our next post). This is easily applied to any root ball and activated when water is applied.
What type of mycorrhizae do i need for my plant, Trees and shrubs?
This is a very large list and only research can tell what type.

MORE NUTRIENTS AND MORE WATER = MORE GROWTH AND HEALTH!

What type of mycorrhizae do i need for my plant, Trees and shrubs?
Mycorrhizae is known to associate with nearly 95% of all know plants, trees and shurbs.
Some associate with Endo, Some with Ecto and some with both!
As a guideline brassicas, laurels, rhododendrons, azaleas, blueberry, cranberry & loganberry are not known to associate with Mycorrhizae.
This is a very large list and only research can tell what type.
